Some questions for you.
« on: July 01, 2013 - 12:14:42 PM »
#1  In an E-body, for any given engine-trans combination, is the length of the propeller shaft different between a Cuda and a Challenger?  I think the Challenger would be longer due to the longer wheelbase.

#2  Is the length only affected by the  type of transmission? ( 4-speed vs A727 vs 3-speed) or does engine size change length also?

#3  Does diameter and thickness get larger with bigger engine displacements, or does it only change the size of the U-joints?  (I know U-joints is related to type of rear end too.)

Thanks

#1 - yes 2" longer wheelbase requires a longer shaft
#2 - no the trans sits int he same place so the difference is 4 inches longer for the driveshaft if you have a 904 , 727 & 833 are longer so the shaft is 4" shorter
#3 - the shafts are generally similar larger at the front with a tapered smaller diameter at the rear , a 7/14 / six might have a smaller diameter shaft but most V8 are the same from what I have seen .
