Thoughts?  is it worth the cash?

Looks like is a swap. Use torsion bars and the stock steering.

http://www.qa1.net/qa1_motorsports/drag-and-street/suspension-components/k-members/mopar-k-members.html

$700

Other similar option is Firm Feel will beef up your old K member for $450 + 150 to powder coat it then you have to ship it. So that's over $600 and you still have the same old K member. For $100 more you get a newly engineered piece that is lighter than stock and probably stiffer. You could probably find free shipping for the new piece too.

Me? I'll stick to the beefed up stock one. Do you have access to a welder? It would cost next to nothing to do it yourself?
Did you see this one from MF yet?

Their website says it knocks off nearly 100 lbs from a stock setup?

MF stuff is sweet but waaay outside the realm of price that we are talking.

I think the QA1 is a nice affordable option that is somewhere between stock and RMS Alterkation, The XV and MF stuff takes it to a new level.

IIRC, the QA1 piece is only about 30-40# less weight than the stock K. This is because they had to add so much more structure back into it to maintain its rigidity. It will utilize all OEM parts such as control arms, steering box, brakes, and T-bars so if you have good pieces there, it will minimize your cost of conversion. However, if you chose to go full tilt with all their tubular components, new rate T-bars, bigger binders, and a Borgeson steering box, it will cost about $1200 less than a comparably equipped AlterK.

The original QA1/CAPP tubular frame may have been 100# less than stock once built out. Of course, they also had rigidity issues with it and weld failures on their control arms. I believe AlterK is also claiming a 100# reduction with their unit.

The nice think about the QA1 vs AlterK set up is you really could modify in stages using their parts. With an AlterK, you have to swap out the whole thing all at once to utilize it. That's a $4500 hit to the checking account all at once.

The Magnum Force unit is all chrome-moly steel, so while it appears huge in comparison, they are claiming the entire set up is 20# less than stock. Personally, I think most of that weight loss is in the brake system. They list it for $5000, so it is about $500 more than a fully speced AlterK unit.

I agree that the QA1 helps the guy who can only afford to build in stages. Most folks don't have 4K+ to drop all at once.  But I can throw a bit at a time and build up.  That MF unit looks trick! but I'm not sure I can afford that kind of stuff. The QA1 maybe in my future.

Did QA1 buy out CAP Auto products? I have a CAP k frame and it is at lest 10 pounds lighter then the stock k frame. But like most cap products I have had weld failures. Lucky for me I have had very little miles on the car and was able to fix them before something horrible happened. I hope QA1 would fine tune this design and have it manufactuerd with higher standards than my CAP k frame. My buddy and I are currently building a jig to build our own based on the RMS k frame to replace my Cap auto one.

Yep QA1 bought them out. How can the K-Frame me 100lbs lighter when it doesn't even weight 100 lbs? You must mean when everything is assembled on the k-frame?

Ah!   that makes more sense!  :2thumbs:   Why would you spend all that time and money for the sake of 10 lbs then? Clearance for headers or something?   :dunno:   Also I'm leery of there design? I know I would touch Cap Auto stuff with a 10 foot pole from the horror stories I've read?

So my understanding is that QA1 bought out CAP as stated. However they re-engineered the Kmember and control arms. I've heard horrible thing about CAP. IF you remember the CAP stuff stated that it was for race only and not recommended for street use.  That's because it wasnt strong enough to handle the twists of turns.
