2 weeks ago, I left on a private plane.
Piper Cherokee 180 with my friend and his 2 sons heading to Alaska.

From Seattle, it was about a 1,500 mile flight to Kanai our final destination. The overcast weather followed us all the way during our flight shutting us down several times. We never saw clear skies the entire 2 weeks I travelled.

It took us 6 days to get to Kanai. We lost 3 days being grounded. Sleeping in Pilots lounges, under the plane on the tarmac, and a hotel while we waited for a shot at our next takeoff.

In order to do this you really need to be IFR certified (Instrument Flight rating) with the best instrumentation flying in overcast conditions with an experienced navigator. Flying in Canada is no joke as many pilots have ended their journey in peril. They require a flight log on your itinarary declaring where ever you travel.
 
Weather can change in a split second as we witnessed in Mayo. I've never seen a thunderstorm create right before me in less than 30 seconds. It was unreal.

Fishing was O.K. We limited out but didn't hook into any Barn doors. Heard of 2 barn doors caught while up there on other boats. Locals say the barn door days are few and far between nowadays.
Sockeye salmon were just stsrting to show. July 10-15th are probably better dates to work the Kanai River for them. King Salmon counts were very low this year.

I have new found friends that live in Kanai and they've invited for me to return.
I will be back!

There is no night life there. The sun's out almost 24/7.

I would've if I had a ride back & forth into Dawson City.
Ended up hitch hiking. 14 kms away from airport.

Nice photos, glad you enjoyed your time up North and flying over my neck of the woods. I probably saw you come and go from the airport here in Whitehorse, I just live across the street. Too bad you had to walk in and out of Dawson City,the laid back town can be fun...for a while.lol.

That looks like an awesome time. I would love to be able to get up to Alaska. It looks like it is such beautiful country.
