Kiesler TKO 500 observations
« on: July 02, 2013 - 06:44:31 PM »
See my original post on the TKO-500 auto to manual conversion:

Just ran the car for about 200 miles:  Back roads, interstate, etc

1.  Very little clutch adjustment after complete installation needed for shake down run:  All fine adjustment could be done right at the clutch pushrod adjustment link

2.  As I experienced back in my 2006 Kiesler, this TKO-500 5 speed is right on the money:  Very crisp shifting points  (except for reverse:   reverse  is NOT synch'd, which is a good thing)

3.  Hyd clutch is smooth and very easy to use.  The Kiesler behind my 427 Vette was all manual pedal, and would kill you in stop and go traffic.  The hyd clutch I am using now is so effective, you would swear it isnt even engaging when you press down and release

4.  1st-2d gear is def for racing.  2d gear is just tall enough where you really cant pull out from a dead stop in 2nd, but its right there after first

5.  How does 2200 rpm sound at 75 MPH in 5th gear?

6.  I went with no shifter console:  Pistol grip looks great coming out of the OEM type boot from the floor with no console

7.  Shift pattern is a little firm/tight going thru the gears:  I expect it to loosen just a little, as did my last Kiesler

8.  I need to look at the speedo cable gear that comes with the kit  (orange).  Im reading 12 MPH slower on the speedometer (Reading 50 on the gauge vs 65 MPH that I am actually going,  (by TOM/TOM, Sattelite read out)

No leaks, all is still tight underneath upon inspection on lift

Great to hear that you have it installed.  The speedo gears are available through Ford Motorsport if you have trouble getting one from Keisler.  Enjoy the overdrive......It is the single best thing you can do to our old cars.

Total price I would call kiesler  For everything except carpet  (Which you dont need a replacement if you will use a console) less than 6k

Some might say 6k is big $$$, but its well worth it.  Whatever company you go with, over drive tranny is the way to go.  I had a 5 speed Kiesler in my 68/427 Vette, and it was great in that car as well

Did you have to cut the floor board.

Yes:  Going from auto to manual, floor board has to be cut, and the included  tunnel installed
