318 engine

what is a 318 out of a 1974 dodge dart, complete with air conditioning worth? don't know if it runs. would need rebuilt either way. I also have a tranny that was behind it. it is not a 727 but smaller. Is the tranny worth anything?

Not very much. I couldn't give away the last 318 I had. I ended up taking some parts off it and scrapping it. Still have the tranny had that for sale for $75 not one call.

I couldn't even give away a 727 last year. It went to the scrap yard.

318 and 904 = scrap weight to maybe $100 if your lucky.

I was thinking it was a 904 but from the picture I think its a 727. It was original to a 318 71 barracuda convertible I used to have.

That's not a 727.  It's a 904.  The 727 pan is a different shape then that.  Post a good picture of the pan.

If anyone is going to scrap a 318, I suggest removing the pulleys and accessory brackets first.  A lot of that stuff is the same on 340 cars.

Not coming that way til spring. I could drive over on my annual trip to Fenway. I'll touch base with you then, if you still have it we'll make a deal. Don't keep it just for me though, if someone else needs it let it go. I would like to have one just to sit around, in case the one in the Cuda disintegrates.

Drop me a line when you're coming. I'm pretty sure it will be sitting in the same sport next spring. 

Burdar I will take a better look at it at some point but I'm pretty sure its a 727. The angled rear corner on the driver's side is pretty distinct in the photo to me. When I junked the engine I  took all the brackets and pulleys off it as well as the exhaust manifolds, valve covers, motor mounts, distributor, etc... If anyone needs any of that stuff let me know.

The 904 is angled like that.  Looks just like my 904 to me.

Burdar its the same as yours. It makes more sense that its a 904. I think I had my pan shapes reversed in my head. It doesn't help that I've been using my cell phone.

Well I think after looking at both trannies yours and mine, I might have to throw on my back-up beepers and eat this one. Both trannies have angles on the left side of the pan, the main difference in the pans are on the right side which we can't see very well in the pictures. But now I am looking at the way the center body makes the transition to the bell housing. I do not think the 727's had the rib on there in the front with an immediate transition. The 727's are more gradual and smooth. And the center body on the 727 seems more fat.
One thing about it that makes me feel really good about this is that earlier this summer I traded a 727 tranny that needed rebuilt (wanted the console real bad) for a 1973 auto floor shift console complete with shifter and all linkage. And I wondered if I got a good deal!!!?  Sounds like I did.
Still want the tranny though Croch.
