Ford Motor Sports Speedometer gear recommendations needed
« on: July 17, 2013 - 09:06:52 AM »
Im running a new Keisler.  It currently has the orange speedo gear.  Problem is that my Speedometer reads 50 mph when I am actually traveling 62 mph.

Could anyone recommend the teeth/color speedo gear I need to get my actual speed readings closer to being accurate?

your speedo gear has too many teeth & is turning too slow , you want approx 18% less teeth , not sure how many you have now though

Chryco

I now have 19 gears  (I actually have the pick gear at 19 teeth, not the orange gear)

So I am assuming, if I need 18% lees total teeth, the math basically ends up to 17 teeth? now needed

By my math you need the speedo to turn more than 20% faster so 50 x1.2 is 60 mph so if you reduce the tooth count by 20 % would be 3.8 teeth you want it to turn a bit fasterthen that so I would start with 15 teeth

Right   Got ya, thanks.  All the websites appear to have the 16 teeth as the smallest available.  I may have to go with a 16 and bear with it

I have a keilsler kit and my speedo is off by about 20 mph too. Could you post a picture of the gear ? Mine was black?

Use this calculator with your tire size and gear ratio:

Brad, this is what the gear looks like along with some of the various size options:

Thanks ! That's it!  :2thumbs: I think I'll just buy the e-bay gears instead of dealing with Keisler again.  :pullinghair:

Thanks again Travis and DocMel   I bought that kit in the e-bay link , just installed the pink one so I hope it's all good now! Going out to a local cruise night tonight to test it out! :worshippy :clapping: :2thumbs:

For the record Keisler modifies/welds the tailstock in there auto OD A-41 kit and used Ford manual speedo gears. ( thought I'd mention that if someone down the road is searching the net for info)
