71 Challenger R/T - "R/T" decal on the hood, placement dimensions
« on: September 18, 2013 - 02:33:34 PM »
Hey gang... Or Mr. Alan...

I think I am going to take on something I've never done before, take on the task of installing the R/T decal on the hood of my friend's 71 Challenger R/T. It is the version without the complete hood blackout, just the "R/T". Also, what is the best method of application?

1. clean and prep hood surface ( Windex ).
2. remove adhesive backing protector
3. position decal, squeeze out excess water/Windex and then tape into position to dry.
4. Once dry, remove top protector cover ( or is it better to accomplish while decal is still wet? )

Cheers,
Troy

You've got the technique down...

I've seen them in two totally different locations. If you bought it from PCG their measurements are way too high in my opinion, it ends up in the same location as if it were in the hood stripe.

I went by this photo where the bottom of the "R" and the top of the "T" are level with the character  line in the hood, centered of course. :2cents: (that's me in the photo...) :naughty:

Alan - I'm pretty sure that I've given you a copy of the factory blueprints that will give the exact location for the R/T

My remaining copy is absolutely buried, but FWIW, the picture Alan has shown looks about right.

Thanks........ Barely make it out,  but I do see what you are talking about in regards to the hood contour line and the top edges of the R and T.....

Here's a clear shot of the R/T as part of the hood blackout.  IMHO if one just put the R/T letters alone that far back, it wouldn't look right.

They definitely need to be a few inches further towards the front of the hood.

Well, for better or worse, it is done.......... Lesson learned, little less Windex on thin detailed decals like this. But, I believe it is good with no debris or air bubbles. "T" looks weird, but it was positioned exactly even with the imaginary body line on the hood going from one side to the other. Guess since it is "flat" whereas the hood's leading edge angles back, the illusion it is tilted occurs.. But, I don't thing do.. Looking back at Alan's it looks the same....... In person it looks great......
