Radiator hose inner spring

I got new Goodyear replacement radiator hoses for my 73 Challenger. There is no inner stainless steel spring inside the lower suction hose. I took the old one off and there is no spring inside either. Is a small block 340 suppose to have internal spring at the lower radiator hose? May be the 1 inch bypass is sufficient such that the pump will not dead head and collapse the suction hose? I am thinking may be to find a thin piece of rigid plastic pipe and insert it to the hose. What is the typical suction pressure from a stock water pump?

I would put one in there anyways.  I needed some for my big block and bought one on the market for a mustang . . . . Actually I needed two of them and it worked out fine . . . . They were like 5 bucks each.

Agree that it make sense to put it in and won't hurt. My new Challenger has it.

Found the Mustang springs and is under $6 but minimum order is $20 plus shipping. I think I will find some heavy gauge stainless steel wires and make my own. The plastic is definitely a dumb idea (what was I thinking).

I've run my challenger over 40k miles without them, never had any kind of issue. The springs that came out of the old hoses definitely weren't stainless steel either, they were a rusty mess.

I used 1/8 welding wire.  Roll it around a pipe and you have your spring

Springs are just a flow restriction IMO.

Most likely the only way it would collapse is because your rad would be plugged. Then you have bigger problems.
