70 Cuda bottom windshield trim problems (wipers hit)
« on: July 02, 2013 - 03:39:25 PM »
The stainless trim at the bottom of my windshield has a slight tweak to it and the wipers are not able to go over it when they are turned off. Is it possible to use a glue to hold it down ? It takes very little pressure to hold it into place. I tried loosening the corner screws, but that doesn't help.

You could use some window sealer to hold the trim down.  When I took mine off, the factory had got some on the trim and it was a bugger to pull off the car.

I bet the problem originates with either thinner glass ro the sealer is to thin & the windsheild is too low

I had to glue the whole leading edge down on my 70 Cuda for the same issue.  I used silicone and toilet paper full rolls to wedge them between the hood and the trim piece to clamp in place until glue set.  It has been fine for over 10 years now.

I had the same problem. I put black silicone sealer under the trim where it was high and jammed a rock between rags between the hood and trim. Left it there overnight and presto. Been good ever since and now the wipers climb over it to park. Mine was just a small interference as if I turned the wipers off while it was raining the wetness lubed the trim and blades enough to let them climb over but dry she was a problem. Reason the fix was so crude was we were at a weekend getaway in a resort so the rock was the only thing I could find to do the job. Don't leave the wipers trying to park as the motor is trying to run and a stalled electric motor can take up to 5-7 times its running current when it is locked. Too many times and you will be talking to Jules the Wiperman.
