question: manual tranny - security lock - disable?
« on: July 28, 2013 - 11:13:18 PM »
'70 Barracuda - 3spd on the floor. I'm working on pulling the project out of the weeds this weekend and seeing what shape everything is in. I want to see if I can turn the motor by hand, but I'm pretty sure the tranny is locked in reverse and we can't find the ignition keys right now (might be lost) ..... is there a semi easy way to disconnect the factory lock out mechanism?

 :working:

anyone have experience with a locksmith, and the rough cost of having a new set of keys made? just curious if it would be better (eg: more cost effective) to replace the lock sets all around, or just have someone come out and make replacements.

just disconnect the linkage at the bottom of the column to release the shift mech
Not that hard to pull the steering wheel & remove the ign lock , easy to make a key from that as it will be coded . Cost for a lock smith to come out will vary depending where you are but easily $100 + much easier to take the locks to them
