Question for folks who know other brand owners/groups
« on: July 26, 2013 - 12:35:49 AM »
I just posted a response in a newb thread where I commented that I'm always impressed by the number of c-c members who have owned their cars for decades. I did a poll a long time ago, and I don't recall the results for sure, but I think it was something like 25% of us who had owned their rides for at least 20 years. I'm wondering if this is an oddity in the classic car world in general, or if I've just never noticed it with Fords, Chevys etc. I have a very good friend who until recently changed cars more often than underwear, and most of the people that I've had conversations with over the years were of the "I bought it for a lark and I'll sell it when I get the right offer" mindset.

So, do e-body owners hang on to their cars longer?

Good question.

I know a hand full of brand x owners that have had their cars for a long time.
Minority for sure.

I would tend to think that once you find the best you hold on to it (or try to) , so ya, e-body owners hold onto their cars longer.

Well for me I've wanted a 70 Challenger since I was 9. First car was a 73 Challenger that was a total rot box. Lasted 11 months before it was scrapped. Then the "collector car market" (late 80's) went nuts and I couldn't afford one ( or what I wanted) Marriage, kids , mortgages etc took there toll.  So when I finally got what I REALLY wanted.....I'm keeping it for a longggggg time! :grinyes:
Also if you look at how long and how many e-body's were made compared to say Camaro's or Mustangs  they are few and far between, especially after 43 years!

I imagine this site by its nature attracts more original owners or 1st car types such as myself.

I can only think of a few of local people I know that fall into this category, one I met at a Mustang show a few weeks ago is the original owner of a '65 Mustang, another our local Mopar club president original owner of a 66 Dart GT.

I think Mopar owners hold onto their cars longer.  Part of it may be that you can't just go get another one that easily.

I've had a handful of classic cars, always seeming to trade them out for something new. Guess I just get bored easy. That being said, the cuda is one that I definitely regret getting rid of.
