What guage wire to use for 8-track player
« on: July 26, 2013 - 07:42:58 AM »
So after waiting for an audio part from Hong Kong to arrive I am ready to wire in the 8-track player. What guage wire should I use? I am going from battery power at the fuse block to the 8-track player with some kind of fuse..I assume a 12v inline fuse?

anyways waht guage wire and is the 12v fuse the way to go.

Thanks!  8)

Hmmm. Not too familiar with 8 tracks, if there is an amperage rating on the case of the unit, go with what it says, if not I'd use 16 gauge wire and a 5 amp fuse.

the decal on the side of the case is long gone. My initial thought was 18 with a 5 amp fuse.

as for will tapes still play? I have no clue but I got 250 of them fore free so if it eats a tape everytime I decide to listen to the 8 track that gives me ~4 years worth of fun!

I would use 16 ga err on the overkill side , 5 am would be lots for the fuse  :2thumbs:

Pop the lid off of the player and look at the wire size on the other side of the power connection. Use same size or larger. When in doubt, go larger. Wire is cheap.

If the wire gets warm, or you can measure a voltage drop from the start of the wire to the player, the wire is too small.
