Weird question on chroming...
« on: August 03, 2013 - 09:32:22 PM »
I've got an old, new in the box, never been installed, built into the wall doorbell with the long tubes. It's 5' tall. The tubes are brass. I want them chromed. Will this affect the sound that they put out? It is totally cool, but I don't want to screw it up. All of my furniture is chrome (even the kitchen table, a Milo Baughman masterpiece) and I want it to match. It's a Broan / Nutone c500. http://www.storeforparts.com/Parts/List.aspx?Brand=NuTone&Model=C500 You absolutely can't find them anymore, and I don't want to mess it up. Despite all the website stuff, parts are NOT available. Thanks for any help.

Adding material that thickens the tube will change it's resonance to a higher pitch, by how much or will it be objectionable or will they be in tune with each other is an unknown.

Maybe find a substitute tube to test.
