Ugly for sure, kinda reminded me of a Honda CRX on steroids?  :puke:  I don't mind the CRX though.

What was so bad is that some of the original design drawings for the Aztek actually looked pretty cool.  I don't know what was wroing with GM & Pontiac back then.  We had a couple of new 90's Pontiacs; me a Trans Am, my wife a GTP Grand Prix.  Both nice cars.  So we were getting the Pontiac owners magazine back then and they showed all of their new models including pre-production drawings of the Aztek & new GTO.  Both looked awesome and my wife was definitely getting a new GTO when they came out, that was until she saw what they actually came out with!  Looked nothing like a GTO and nothing like the drawings.  Hard to believe they can come up with such kickass designs and fail to include any of that in their production cars.  R.I.P. Pontiac...  I hope Chrysler doesn't go down the same path with their Challenger and possible future Barracuda...

I remember when this thing came out, I thought it was butt ugly! Now looking at it again it doesn't seem that bad. If I saw one drive by I wouldn`t give it a second glance sort of looks like everything else on the road now a days. I think it looks a lot better than the Honda excrement, I mean element!

At the time the Aztek scored the highest focus group score of any vehicles that GM had tested. I'm not sure who that reflects worst upon. The original Aztek concept was sportier than the final production model.

Then there was the Ultimate Aztek which was powered by a NASCAR motor if I remember correctly. I think this thing is awesome.

One of the things that killed that vehicle from an appearance perspective was the lower body cladding. At the time, Pontiac put it on everything. The stylists pleaded with them (from what I'm told when I was there) to leave the cladding off, but management made a decision that the cladding was what made it a Pontiac.
