Start/run circuit
« on: September 25, 2013 - 11:10:43 AM »
I am hooking up the brain for my fuel injection system in my '71 Challenger and the instructions say I need to power it with a circuit that has 12V during cranking and running.  Is there even a wire that has that?

Don't know how much power your looking for and not familiar with fuel injection needs, but there are a few circuits that have power when cranking and running. Lighting circuit for one, there are also a few plugs on your fuse box that can be utilized.
keep honking I'm reloading

I don't know how much power it will use either.  It was a small wire (maybe 18 gauge) and it think it is used to sense when you are trying to start the car, not actually power the unit.  It had like a 12 gauge wire for main power.

I got tired of laying on my back under the dash with a flashlight with my meter trying to see what had power and when.  I'll have to scope out the lighting circuit.  Thanks for the info rattlesnake!

you can tie into the wires either at the bottom of the column or at the ballast resistor , they will be brown & blue , brown is start blue is run & both need to be connected . It just trips the relay for the main power from the battery ,very light load .

 :iagree:

That is how I ran mine (ballast resistor), 1 year in no issues.  :clapping:

most Msd & computers use a 12 ga wire to feed power from the battery or similar such as power at the start relay , the smaller gauge wire that connects to the start run feed is usually 18 ga & just switches on the power inside the MSD or computer using a relay
