Fuel tank replacement - Vapor separator help
« on: November 07, 2013 - 06:21:55 PM »
G'day.

I am replacing my trunk floor and gas tank in my 70 Challenger.

The gas tank has the 4 vapor separator hoses running from it. I have looked at replacement tanks and there is two types - one with the E.C.S. (Evaporative Control System) and one without.

Is the E.C.S. system necessary or is it just a smog measure? Any advice on retaining / deleting this system?

Any advice on what parts 'must' or should be changed out while I'm doing this e.g. fuel sender etc?

Thanks!

Check this thread out:

From my reading, there are a few other pieces to the N95 (what I think you have) option in 70
- the ~2" diameter vent tube/stack in the trunk
- the vapor separator, at the valve cover, that connects to the carb
- the vapor line that connects the vapor separator to the vent tube/stack
- the 4 lines that connect the fuel tank to the vent tube

If you are missing any of the pieces, you may want to go with some of the options listed in the thread above.  I guess it boils down to how original you want to go.

Thanks Jerry. Functionality over originality in this case!

I have the same year/system in my Challenger and replaced the tank a few years ago. I had all the parts on the car to hook it all back up so it was not an issue for me but I can understand if your missing parts.....
FYI even if you don't have the N95 option there still is a venting system in the trunk.  I guess if you used a vented gas cap it would do the same thing.
