Console Mount Cassette Player with Micrphone
« on: July 13, 2013 - 02:52:04 PM »
I am thinking of parting ways with my console mount cassette player with microphone to help fund more important parts for my Challenger. After looking around prices are all over the place. This one was bought in 1986 and has been in a bag surrounded by packing peanuts in a box. My dad bought it back then from a company out of Michigan an it looks mint. Microphone is in a Chrysler box and has a coilied cord. Any help would be great. Dad paid $360 in 1986 for it and has never installed it.

Bracket is attched to bottom. It has never beeninstalled since we have owned it. It was bought in 86 refurbished and has been out of the box a handful of times.

I'm not in the market for it. Cuz I know it'll be way out there on auction.

I am curious what you get for it though.

So where do you guys think the market is $250, $500, $1,000, or more? Or just ebay the package and let it decide for itself? Thanks for the input so far.

It appears that the action on the cassette decks and related parts has slowed in recent years - there was one point when your setup would have pulled an easy $1000 - working or not.

One of the biggest 'plus' factors for you is that the cassette unit itself is a console mount which is much less common than the various floor mount units.  DIN cable is for a floor mount, and the microphone is a later, over-the-counter replacement.  Originals had a straight cord vs. coiled, and a rather different appearance.

It appears that the faceplate of the unit is in good condition with no knobs missing and no cracks.  Assuming that's the case, I'd say $5-600 in the current market.  If it were mine I don't think I'd go below $500 for the setup unless it were a really good friend.

I had my cassette deck in very similar condition on my table at Carlisle for $350 all weekend...the one and only offer I had was $250.  :screwy: I paid $350 for mine a few years back. :banghead:
Mine did not include the microphone.

Another CDN friend Terry, had a couple of decks on his table in various condition priced for less and didn't sell them either :dunno:

I think you'll get a much better luck on e-bay.

The market is kind of small since it's only relevant for 1971+ cars.

I'd say, since people are taking a chance on buying something w/o hearing it work, and because it's hard to find someone who can repair these, I'd say $500 max.
