or, you could dent the pan, if it would be simple.

I'd be a little leery grinding on the K member, since it
carries some heavy loads, but I've never done it.
Metal can crack with the right load and starting point/flaw.
Just something to consider.
In testing the strength of metals, they put a notch in it,
then apply the force.

So, the pan has clearance around the whole k member, headers, etc. how much do I need for the k member 1/4" or 1/2"? How about the headers?

That's what I did  when I used the Milodon BB road race pan

Mine hit on the brackets for the motor mounts. Didn't take much to clear it?

No, I have small block and have about 1/4 or 1/2" around the pan.
