I can tell you this....I had my Superbird (440-6, auto with 3.55 gears) hit 150 on the speedo. The speedo was recently rebuilt and calibrated, speedo gear was correct for the rear tire size (275-60-15), and rear end ratio. That car felt like i was sitting on my couch watching TV! Now the car had a completely rebuilt polygraphite front end and alignment was properly set. I ran out of b*alls before the engine ran out of RPMs. I have no idea what the stock tach said for RPMs (NO WAY was I looking off the road to check!) and those tachs were wildly inaccurate anyway.
I'd say above 140-150 MPH, aerodynamics becomes a signifigant factor as the drag increases the HP requirements exponentially.
