Challenger in the local junkyard
« on: March 11, 2005 - 03:47:55 PM »
I was pulling a master cylinder off of a 88 ram yesterday and I turned around and saw this.  Went back today and got some stuff.  Got the door glass and all the stainless that wasn't bent plus some smaller stuff I needed for my car.  Is the grille worth anything on the 72-74 cars?  What about the rear window?  Its a 318 car.  The fenders aren't exactly rust free but probably better than the ones up north.  I didn't know if they were worth it or not, esp with goodmark coming out with some repops soon.  Also found a 73 Charger and a 72 Duster.  Found a 833 OD too but forgot to ask about it today.  Its in a pickup thats stacked on top of another car.

MAXcuda,
The grill would be worth something. I wish the pic was better. The hood looks to be useable. What about the doors? How about those rings around the headlights? They are special in nice shape  Also, what about the bumpers? the front one looks like it has hope?

Rear window, seats, grille and even the standard dash are worth grabbing if you can get them for a decent price.

The plastic piece that goes just above and attaches to the front valence is almost always cracked and rarely shows up for sale - even on eBay. From those shots it appears not to have been too picked over body-wise. Think what you could do with a full day and a tool box

btw did the 88 ram still have the seat belts and if so were they gray?? I'd be greatly interested if so  ::)

The car itself looks like it could be restored.  Good find.

Except there is no title.  I already asked about just getting the whole thing.  The big dent in the roof is a major negative too.  It might be do-able but it would take a lot of work.

Burpin could use the hood hinges if they work good.

well i did intend to get the whole car, but the reality is i dont really have anywhere to put it.  I know the parts can be sold, but the yard owner is telling me that he doesn't have a title, so he cant sell me the car, only "stripping rights" and when i were to get done stripping it, i have to take the unibody back to him so he can crush it.  another bad point for me taking the whole car is that somebody already robbed the disc brake spindles so it won't even roll.  its front fenders are sitting on some tires in the mud and are bent behind the wheel wells.

Burpin, I dont think the hood hinges could be any worse.  I mean they can be rebuilt, but unless you dont have hood hinges currently, they're not worth it.

74chall, the front hood trim was deecccent if i remember correctly.  I dont think it was dented, but you'd have to do some rust clean up on it.  I think it would be useable, but it would take a fair amount of work, just like every piece on the car.

I would be glad to get anything you guys want from the car as long as it can be shipped by UPS.  problem is i am at college and the car is 3.5 hrs away from me right now.  its 25 minutes from my house.  too bad i found it at the very end of spring break or we could have had open season on it for a week.

this is the first time i've ever seen a car this old in this junkyard, so its not like i would be giving away the goose that lays golden eggs, but if anybody wants the location of the yard i'll give it to them.  I'd rather see the parts go to use than the car get crushed.  its in Virginia near Richmond.  send me a PM.  I'll probably have to give you directions to the challenger too b/c the place is huge  :coffee:

I just finished restoring a 72 Challenger, I have extra hood hinges and front hood trim. I don't need them anymore and wil sell them cheap. I could supply pixs.
If your interested e-mail me at decole_98@yahoo.com.

Max, I'd suggest taking that entire grille assembly. (the fiberglass header panel as well as the grille and grille moulding.  Just think what you could make off eBay with just those couple pieces.
