What should I do?
« on: December 06, 2013 - 08:41:06 PM »

71 challenger RT.
Car is currently down to the shell. Gonna be pulling fenders, glass, sandblasting and doing body work.

Idea for down the road is a new hemi swap, with associated trans, wiring harness etc.

Just looking for advice on what I should do suspension, steering and mod wise prior to painting?

Looking to do everything I can with a welder before paint so I won't have to worry about it later.

Thinking sub frame connectors and torque boxes. Anything else you wish you did or that is a must do mod for whatever reason that I should do now?

There's some K frame stiffening you can do, and there are cowl/fender braces you can add.

There are also some completely different front ends you can put in but they are  :money: :money: :money: :money:

What are you planning on doing with the car?  Just a driver?  Strip?  Track day?

I like this one, but I'm prejudice, I put it on mine.

Just gonna be a driver/daily driver.

I got it essentially as a roller/shell.

When I got it it was missing hood, grille/light buckets tail panel/lenses, drivers door, interior, center support, front valance and the list goes on lol. Anyway finally have all the body pieces I need.
But I am going with a modern drivetrain/interior for obvious reasons.

Just looking to get some of necessary mods now, so that way at a later date I won't be kicking myself for not doing them when I paint it.

So anything that requires welding, or is easier to do when the car is disassembled I would appreciate knowledge of it.

I like those as well as the RMS setup.

I will likely go with those when I get closer to that stage.

I appreciate the feedback everyone!

the Mopar suspension was very well deigned for 1970 & you can go a long way with it with just simple upgrades etc , just Look at Ehrenbergs brick cornering at close to 1 g !! There is a lot of body stiffening that can be done with welding the K frame & adding gussets etc but the rest of the chassis can be stiffened as well with rad support brace , wheelwell braces , welding seams etc . There is even a steering box shaft supprts that can be aded to the K frame .
the K frame replacement offers some upside but to me as yet is still not 100% IMO

Copy thanks bud.

I found the complete ebody chassis stiffening kit from us cartool. Outside of that, anything else I should do?

I hope you got their 13% discount. If you bought the kit and didn't get it, you have 30 days and they'll refund you the 13% with a gift certificate. I bought their subframe connectors and torque box/inr apron kits and it look to be decent stuff. Just my  :2cents:
