Okay, so this is starting to make a little more sense. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You feel your project car is worth $48K (with over $50K invested)  Key word "invested"  Worth: I don't know

He feels his turn key Hemi clone is worth $60K "Buy it now" ....Drive it now.... Correct

He contacted you about making a trade for your car plus you give him some cash. Ditto

I'm assuming he wants you to add more then the difference of $12K cash ? Haven't discussed that

I think the question(s) you have to ask yourself are:

#1 Is his car currently worth the $60K asking price ?  (My opinion...YES) Agreed
#2 What would the current value of a "U" code auto be fully restored ? (My opinion....$75K-$80K tops) Factory A/C car - Maybe/ Maybe not
#3 On top of your $50K currently invested, how much extra would it cost to restore your car to a level where you could sell it for top dollar ? (My opinion....another $60K minimum) Again : Maybe/ Maybe not

#4 How much are you willing to spend to get a turn key driving car ? Ideally trade down even for less than a Hemi convertible

If you spend the money to restore your car, (I'd be glad to do it for you ) You will have over $110K invested in a car worth $80K....$30K loss, but a real nice fully restored new rare original car. No big argument

If you give him say, $25K difference, you'll have $75K invested in a $60K car, only a $15K loss, but it would be a cool HEMI 4spd Shaker car Possibility if he were interested

In hindsight, I think you never should have taking your car apart if you couldn't follow through. Hind sight is 20/20, and at the time, I had "high hopes" of completing it. (I wasn't a 100% disabled vet at that time either)If your car was a turn key driver, you might get a better dollar, but as a rusted out, blown apart project, I think you'll have a hard time "A" finding a buyer and "B" getting anything over $20K. I know it sounds insulting, but it's true. Unfortunately that has been the case. If I wanted the hassle of parting it out, I could probably get more?!!?

I guess it will just continue to set there in the back of my shop until someone comes along and makes me "an offer I can't refuse", or my son has to deal with it in my estate!?!?    Thanks again for your thoughts and input.

It's also a "U" code auto with A/C. It has more options,documentation, and quite possibly a more desirable colour combo, but still it's a six figure car, maybe yours would be too if "WE" restored it to the same level.

Alan: I would love to do that, and I' sure you would do a terrific job on it!  However, $60K is way beyond my means even with " ....easy monthly payments...".
