Ran & looking for safety and improvements
« on: October 05, 2013 - 06:12:40 PM »
OK was not sure where else to post, so please relocate if in the wrong forum.

My question covers several fields and didn't want to make 4 or 5 threads.
Safety for myself and the car are my priority, and I feel good about making sure my car passes tech...

Going through the traps at 113 made me nervous about my lap belts. Thoughts on upgrades?
Looking at many harnesses they require aftermarket seats.
Not against them, but was curious on what others have done?

I rolled out of the traps very slowly, and obviously hooking better is also my next step ( not necessarily slick tire and 4 grand clutch dumps )
But obviously that gets harder on the other drivetrain components.

While digging I've seen Brad's home built frame ties, which I still need to do.
I'm thinking a drag radial over a real "slick". I have read the reviews on the Nittos & MT's. I won't stir that pot.
BUT, I would like any input on...
My stock 8-3/4 ( no more than a handful of passes a year tops, using a drag radial )
I've read on back braces & main caps, any thoughts on keeping it alive?

U-joints? I have no idea whats under there, can I "upgrade" there too, or is in good shape sufficient?
I need to run a driveshaft loop, but that appears to be something I can fab myself as well.

I also run Schumacher poly lock engine mounts, but will I be better off to run a torque strap too?

Also, I have a rev limiter built in to my ignition system, but I was shifting by "feel". I'm thinking I want to get a shift light even if it's something that doesn't stay in the car full time.

My car is pretty much just your average street car, and my 1st I have done any kind of track time with, so if I'm glossing over anything else say something please!

Thanks for your time and any input.

PS.. I like his car, but this is also to keep me on top of my buddies Chevelle... just a little extra incentive for some  :swaying:

Driveshaft loop , frame ties  & torque strap for sure 1
Most 4 point harnesses will require a roll bar to attach to or they will be useless mount the should belts too low & the seat will still move forward in the inverted U of the belt .
The diff will live for a while but you may want to save for a Dana 4 spds & traction will eat up 8 3/4 diffs , back braces & caps will not help ask how I know !
