If using a towbar to tow a car with an A833 4 speed do you need to remove the driveshaft?

I disagree , in neutral the input shaft & countershaft are stationary so all that is turning is the mainshaft which is well above the oil level .

I always pulled them when I was towing. Even though I didn't think it was necessary.

It depends if you are only going a few miles or longer distances.

Probably why folks trailer their cars for shows that are quite far away.

In normal operation the countershaft is rotating throwing oil up on the main shaft , towing this is not happening , can't be good for it  :2cents:

If I was towing to a shop a mile away I wouldn't worry about it but longer distances I would most likely trailer it.

:iagree: I had a trans blow up and rip a chunk out of the block when the trans popped into gear when my dad was towing it. It was a 3 on the tree but I imagine it could happen with any trans

Years ago I bought a 4 speed car in upper Michigan and towed it to Washington State. No problems and it did not harm the tranny. After reading the other posts to the thread, it may be better to remove the DL, but I would not hesitate to to tow on a short distance.
