70 challenger grill help, removal, restoration, etc
« on: December 04, 2013 - 10:30:13 PM »
I did a search but couldn't find anything.  :dunno:

I need to remove the grill, any links, instructions, tips, etc ? :drunk:

Also, is there a thread or link that might review how to restore a 70 grill ?

Thank you for any information.

Doug.  :2thumbs:

We just used a stripper on it and repainted. Are you doing the whole thing or just the egg crate?

MCB can restore the grille.  I suggest them.  You can talk to Matt there if you like.  Check out the grille in the orange 70 Challenger on my site.  He did that grille.  I was very pleased.

Jim, I need to do the entire grill. Just have to figure out what color for various parts of the grill.
Is the egg crate all black? And the rest argent silver.  ?

E body,,,who is MCB ? Your grill looks great!

Are you doing an R/T grill or a base model grill?  If you're not painting it black (like on an R/T) Duplicolor's GRAPHITE wheel paint is a good choice for the dark argent.  You can use the textured paint to add a little roughness before you topcoat it with the graphite.

Thank you FY1
This is the grill.  Base model,  non RT car. Thanks for the paint examples, I might try this on my own.
I assume the "eggcrate" portion is black ?

Tropical , thanks for the link, I might need them for some trim help.

The rim around the egg crate is shiny anodized aluminum, so don't paint that.  The center of our egg crate shouldn't be black on a non-R/T.

Egg crate on your car should be silver or unpainted aluminum. I've seen them both ways. As mentioned by FY1Cuda, do not paint the outer rim of the egg crate.

For the time required, I really suggest MCB. The grill will be perfect.
