Converter?
« on: April 06, 2005 - 08:15:36 AM »
I am looking at ordering a mild converter for my 727  just wondering who is reliable ??

Its bolting to a 318, my cam is not stock and a little too big. The converter is stock, so I am hoping that a mild converter will improver performance without breaking the bank, or hurting the milage that bad??

Any ideas??   is this even something I should be considering?

My brother just did the same last summer on his Cuda.
Rebuilt 318 bigger cam. Then he rebuilt the trans with a higher stall convertor. BIG diff.
I'll find out what the stall it is unless someone beats me to the punch.

Go w/ a 2400-2800 stall. The converter needs to be quality.. a 10" would be best IMO. If you buy cheap.. cheap you will get.. esp converters.

I use a COAN.

You must match the converter to thew cam , where does the powerband of the cam start ?

Ahh Yes...  I will have to look, its a MP .484  .284     I got it from the guy that sold me the motor, its kinda big for the motor but its what I had.   not sure where the power band starts??  You may know.  I can look it up on the site.

Off the top of my head, I think your powerband starts at 2500 RPM.

in a 318 it will not hit the powerband until 2800 approx , so you need a 3000 stall
