installing the crush can and wheel question
« on: December 22, 2013 - 09:35:30 PM »
ok, so previous owner had a crap aftermarket wheel in without the crush can so i took it all off and did the ignition switch lock cylinder and the turn signal switch. i need to mount the crush can and i wanna know if there is some sort of index mark where it should line up on the splines i see a space where it skips a spline and the shaft but no index on the can spline. Do i just fit it to where the steering wheel is straight on then mount the can where it lands?

also do u hit it on with a rubber hammer till i get the threads far enough out to get the nut on?

There's a main spline at top dead center. It looks like the width of two splines put together. The crush can will only fit on one way. You should be able to push it on far enough to start the nut. :2cents:

now looking i see it must have been my poor lighting in my tent shed..haha..... also the horn im trying to figure out. i have the relay in and is the gold pin that is a plunger on the turn signal switch for the horn supposed to have power to it? and it the spline shaft connecting to the crush can that connects to the steering wheel supposed to provide a ground when the horn button is pressed? Thats my conclusion i think that happens. just wanna make sure thats what it is before i sock down that nut for good.

The horn is a ground switch so no power there , it grounds the relay through the horn switch sending power to the horns .
