What can I use to strip my car to bare metal??

Been through this myself and suggest you save your pennies and get it blasted.  You'll be much happier with the result and you'll have plenty of time to get to know the car when doing your body work.  My 2 cents

The only reasons why I did it by hand stripped.

I knew the car well enough to know there wasn't going to be any surprises as I stripped it.
I read horror stories (in fact here) that they still have sand coming out years later after being done (sandblasted).

I don't think I could have handled the shock of seeing everything wrong in one moment. Slow and steady let me take in each new issue gently...
