73 challenger.....driver quality
« on: May 16, 2017 - 03:07:48 PM »
Purchased this a few months ago after searching for one for awhile in my price range.  Not a lot to be had that is complete for less than $10k i found out.  It is nothing special, 318 with auto trans.  Motor runs great and trans shifts good so i was happy about that.  I purchased it from a guy in Pennsylvania.  Things i've done to make it a good driver include....front shocks, rear air shocks, carb rebuild, rear wheel cylinders, fuel line front to back, new carpet, recovered the front seats (first time i've done that myself), new plugs, wires, etc., new transmission pan and filter (could not get the old one to stop leaking until i just replaced it with new), new shift seal in transmission, valve cover gaskets, flushed radiator, thermostat and housing, muffler, polished the wheels, front tires. So lots of little stuff.  The car does have some rust on lower quarters and rear valance, some on the doors and fenders, but I just plan on using it as a driver so will just leave it for now.  The hood had some rust holes on the front edge and needs to be replaced, but i just did some patch work for the time being since its no show car.  On to the pics.

Looks really good.  I love the last picture.  Looks like the sun is setting with an orange glow?

Thanks everyone. It is fun to do the little things yourself.  I work on vw's/audis for a living so its really nice to put this on the hoist to work on once in awhile. So much easier!

I recently ditched the two barrel carter and put a holley 600 with a weiand intake and wow, what a difference it makes.  Idles smooth, can light up the tires a lot easier, lots more power.  Next will probably be dual exhaust.

I did the similar to my 72 back in 81, I think with a 650 four barrel. It works and sound even better with headers.

Moved the front and rear bumpers in the past week.  The front i just redrilled the holes in the bracket to slide it back.  The rear i had to cut the bracket and re weld it where i wanted it. Also removed the rear bumper guards and replaced them with 1970 ones.  I did have to drill a hole in the bumper to make those work.  Looks better with the bumpers tucked in like the early ones though.

Imop it looks so much better with them moved in. I have done the rear on my 74. No early fillers though. Going to just cap the openings.
Removing the warning labels one at a time.
Nature will take care of the rest.

Last week i got some 2.5" exhaust pipe from speedway motors. It included straight pipes,u bends, 90 and 45 degree angles.  Also got a couple dynomax mufflers so my buddy and i could fab up the dual exhaust.  I'm very happy with how it turned out and it ended up costing about $350 in parts.

Sounds really nice.  I tried it without the h pipe installed and i didn't like it.  Sounds so nice with that in now.
