Regional forums?
« on: November 25, 2013 - 03:53:23 PM »
I'm currently a member on a few other auto enthusiest forums and they all have regional forums. Could this be an option? It would be helpful in sharing info and building greater network/comradery within the Cuda/Challenger owners community. I attend several local meets, drives and events because this allows local owners to get to know each other and form an even stronger bond. Some of my best friendships have formed from these regional forums

Heres an example from one of the forums I frequent

Thanks for reading! :worshippy :burnout: :2cents:

There is the "members in your state" topic that has an extensive list.

Not poo pooing the concept but the reality is this is a relatively small group, with just a couple of exceptions we're spread pretty thin.
Just to point up the difference in size of this board & your example, our largest forum has 40144 Posts on 8439 Topics vs 1,881,091 Replies on 65,304 Topics in your example

And on top of that, I'd guess that at any given time there's probably 100 people who are really active at any given time.

But, the members in your state thread barely works. About half the people who use it don't follow the directions, so people get lost. I wonder if there's any way to add a simple database to the site to store that info?

When I first joined there was a world map that you could "PIN" your location & you could zoom in on a region & see who else was pinned nearby..It disappeared after one of the upgrades or moves.

Wade,

I remember that. It was pretty neat actually. I just wonder if it didn't disappear because the site was getting pretty darned good looks at homes where people lived and it became a privacy issue?   :dunno:

^^ makes sense. I guess I still don't know enough about production numbers vs. Chassis still on the road or in a shop being restored. The example I gave was to more less just show a break down of how regional forums can look like. Here's a better/much simpler example on a smaller scale. Maybe something like this could be be implemented??

Very basic. East coast/Midwest/Mountain/West coast and international? It could be worded differently depending on what the mods feel is most appropriate.

In the mean time GO2 why don't you add your location to your profile & maybe add your location in your signature.
:thinkerg:  Might help locals find you on here

I see what he's saying.  When I had an SRT-4 I was involved in a couple forums and one of the more active ones was the regional section.  The New England forum was helpful for me to buy/sell parts, arrange meetups with locals for help, repairs or just hanging out.  I see how on this particular forum it may not be as beneficial due to the lower number of active users, but if it can be implemented for a time, why not give it a shot?  Not everyone has their location in their sig, and when stuff goes up for sale/wanted it saves a few posts trying to find out if the guy is in Colorado or Connecticut.

 Location added.
Jesus H Chrysler, thanks! Not trying to upset the balance of the site by any means. Just seems logical, that there would be a logistical area for members to converse/trade/sell etc.

I like the idea about everyone putting their location in their sig.

Since I mentioned it, I suppose I should do it!  Location added.

I can look into adding that map feature again.  its just one of those things that needs to really get used in order to be useful.  but if enough people say they want it I can look into it again!
