I did this with a set of 70 front and rear bumper brackets, and my original bumpers.  I planned on having the bumpers rechromed, so I just had them fill the extra mounting holes from the bumperettes.  I think it cost a few bucks per hole.  If you don't want the slots, I'm sure you could also get those filled, also.  I believe the grand total for both bumpers was around $200.00, but that was 4 years ago.

Looks great! Thank you for the information and I look forward to doing the same. I had to get new bumpers and they should be here any day. Hope to have them on for an early Dad Xmas gift!
Thanks again,
Charlie

It all depends on the bumper jack, a slotted is used in 1972 and no bumper guard holes, so use the 1970-72 front brackets. or go 71 bumper and try to jack up a slippery 70-1 old type, unsafe jack. A 72 on a 74 is what I did. But a 71 calls for a 71.

The slotted bumpers showed up on late 71 cars...not 72's. It's not really an issue though.  No one should be using the factory jacks...they are very unsafe.  You should be carrying a small scissor jack in the trunk.

Here is a cheap and easy way to move the front bumper in...

You will see some square holes just infront of the factory mounting holes on the bumper brackets.  If you drill out those square holes to 5/8", you can now use them as your new mounting holes.  That will push the bumper assembly back a couple inches.  The rear is more difficult.  It requires cutting the mounting brackets...overlapping them a couple inches and rewelding them.  If I was on a budget, I'd modify the front brackets and buy new rears.

A bumper jack is for that absolute emergency, when the bottle or trolly jack ain't enough. The small jack can get buried in the dirt.       Sometimes the only way to get a big tire off, is to raise the body, as well as the axle.
