New steering column inner shaft 70 Barracuda
« on: February 02, 2014 - 11:11:52 PM »
Kind of stuck at the moment as my steering shaft is trashed. The splines are bad, it has been extended (?) and has several welds. Shortly, needs replacement.
I have placed an ad but i guess its hard to find one.

Next option would be to make a new shaft. There are universal ones with correct diameter but i would then need to replace the coupling at the steering box with a u-joint (if i am not able to press the pin out and reinstall in the new shaft).
If i go that way, how about the splines for the steering wheel / crush can? Machine shops in general, are they able to cut new splines in a bare shaft (included the master spline in the crush can)?

What is your thoughts? Hopefully someone had the same experience.

I have some good used shafts. Is it for power or manual steering? PM or e-mail me
