Help, Dana 60 purchase advice
« on: March 07, 2014 - 06:00:19 PM »
Hi guys, looking for a dana 60 to complete my drivetrain rebuild and came across this one.  I'm not an expert in these and would appreciate any advice you have on this one. It's going into a 73 cuda - behind a stroked 440 and TKO600.

Poster tells me the distance between the flanges (where the backing plate bolts on) is 57".

This one is appealing because i want the 4.10 gear ratio, and posi "ready to go"

Ask if it has pinion snubber mount holes.
It is probably a truck conversion.
Nothing wrong with that but you will need the snubber.

Thanks a lot.  He says it does not have the pinion snubber mount holes.  If these holes aren't already in the diff, am I toast? Easy to buy the snubber I see on dr diff

Not a great deal IMO , it has the weaker Sure Grip / posi with only 2 spider gears not 4 , truck case , you could buy new from Dr Diff for about the same $$ & add the trac loc sure grip which is far better & specify the gear ratio you want

Thanks chryco.  He says he would do 1400.  But agree with you, what I see at dr diff is appealing - and all new, properly installed.

No brake included , no clue what yolk it has or if it has one , the Ford truck yolk is the same as the Mopar performance one using the larger 7290 U joint & U bolts

Dr. Diff offers the Moser input Yoke with his new units. Way better IMO.

If you play your deals right you should be able to pick up one from a junker truck ( if it is in good shape) and do the whole thing yourself for under a $1000 if you are being budget minded. Otherwise go for the dr diff one that gets you the snubber bolts.

I would contact Mopar Al first.  He may be able to beat the doctor diff price.
