Mounting tires on new stock rally wheels
« on: March 13, 2014 - 12:20:25 AM »
I have a new set of rally wheels that I plan to take to the tire shop to have new tires installed.  My question concerns the wheel center caps.  I know the caps get bolted from the back side of the wheel.  Should I wait until the tires are mounted to install the center caps?  I'm not sure if I trust a tire shop to install the center caps and I don't want the caps to get damaged during the tire installation.
Thanks for your help.

the caps can be mounted while mounting the tires but I would balance any tire & for that the center cap has to be off , just mount the caps yourself when you get the tires & rims home of at the shop after they finish the balance

:iagree: Definitely, do not let the tire guys mess with the caps. Even back in the day, a good share of them ruined the caps, as they thought they just popped off and would try to pry them off with a screw driver.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback.  One more question.
What about the balance weights and the trim ring installation?  Do the standard lead weights cause any interference with the trim ring install?

Remember the old saying,  (If you want it done right -do it yourself )... :2thumbs:

Also a little blue Loctite #242 would be good on the bolts..
