Magnum exhaust manifold fitment question (picture included)
« on: March 18, 2014 - 12:14:32 PM »
Hi guys,

So, I've learned from poking around on the forums that Magnum exhaust manifolds can be a pretty good option and a cheap upgrade for my stock 360 manifolds.

I've come across a really good deal on some 94 dakota manifolds.

From what I've been able to tell, the truck manifolds can come in a "center dump" or a "rear dump" configuration.  I'm not in front of my car, but I'm fairly sure the stock manifolds on my car are a center dump.  These appear to be a rear dump.  I know I'll have to block an EGR port, but I'm not worried about that.

Any idea (from the picture) if there will be any fitment issue?

If they fit, it's really a great deal I'm getting on these manifolds.  I'm hoping they'll work.

I have a 360 with power steering in my challenger.

As always, thank you so much for your help, I truly appreciate all the advice you've given me already!

Bob

I have seen these used before & they fit well as long as you do not have the Clutch Z bar on the left side

Thanks Chryco,

I've got an automatic, so it sounds like I should be fine.

I was hoping you'd see this one.  After digging through the forums, you seem to be the one championing for these Magnum manifolds.  I probably read a dozen posts that you wrote that had the words "magnum exhaust manifold" in it.   :)

Thanks for the inspiration to swap in these manifolds and for the confirmation that these will fit!

Will do!  I'll report back here.  It might be a little while.  Manifolds should be in next week, then the EGR ports get welded shut, then I'll clean em up and paint em with some high temp enamel before slapping them on.

In between that, I finish grad school in...5 weeks.  So I'm in the final crunch and might have to ignore my Challenger for a month.

Either way, keep an eye on this thread and I promise you'll get an update!

Hi everybody,

Thanks for the help so far!  The manifolds at my friends shop to get the EGR port welded shut.

As a (dumb) followup question.  When I replace the exhaust manifold gaskets, am I going to want to get one for the motor or for the manifolds?  When I'm looking for the right one, should I be asking for one for my LA 360 or for a Magnum 360?  I'm guessing they're similar, but not the same.

Also, I'm noticing that the pipes go into my existing manifolds at the center of the manifold.  The new manifolds are a 'rear dump' manifold.  Is this going to require a huge amount of modification to the exhaust pipe?  I'm going to be taking it to a shop to do that work.  I'm just not sure if its going to be worth modifying the pipe or just putting a whole new system in.  My great deal on manifolds is going to turn into a few hundred dollar exhaust system overhaul

I'm also aware of the idea that I just might be overthinking this.   :)

Thanks (again) for your help!

I believe either gasket will do the job fine. The muffler shop should be able to connect the manifolds to the rest of your existing system.

No gaskets nessisary I believe , if you install them between the head & manifold they will leak guaranteed , the flange looks like they seal with a cone flare on the end of the pipe , I would just rework the head pipes to connect it
