Tach wire thru firewall on 1973 Challenger
« on: March 27, 2014 - 02:02:15 PM »
I have a gray/black stripped wire going through a hole in my firewall next to the brake booster.  This is the only wire going thru that hole and there is no grommet.  I believe this is the tach wire that goes to the negative side of the coil.  A female bullet connector is on the end of the wire.  I replaced the factory engine wire harness with a M&H harness.

My question is... was there a factory grommet that was used?  The wire goes thru the firewall and inside behind the fuse panel.  I can't seem to find any repro grommets or mention of how the factory did it.  Thanks.

Yes, there is a grommet and yes it is the tach wire.  If I remember correctly, my new M&H harness came with a grommet already on that wire.

Thanks Burdar!  My M&H did not include the tach wire.  I know they sell it separately for earlier years that plugs into the harness.  Do you happen to have a part number? Thanks.

My new main dash harness had the grommet already attached to the tach wire. There is a short (6" maybe) wire that goes from that wire to the coil. I don't know if that grommet is included in the body plug kits or not.
