73 cuda new hood opinions/options
« on: March 29, 2014 - 12:17:25 PM »
I have a 73 cuda 340 with the twin bulge hood. But the problem is that it won't fit due to how my motor is set up. So was looking at ideas for a new hood. And most likely will be turned into a fresh air set up. Any ideas or pictures are greatly appreciated!

You could use a 6pack hood, or US body source makes a 4 inch cowl induction too

An AAR hood

Or

A shaker hood set up.

Or
you could get a flat hood, cut a hole,  and put any scoop you want on it.

Yea I considered a shaker set up but so dang expensive! But leaning towards an aar hood I believe, sucks I have to use my original hood as a garage ornament but I guess it has to happen. Gonna keep scanning the internet on ideas and ways to go about it. I appreciate it though guys

How much higher does the aar hood come up over the twin bulge hood? I'm gonna try and go that route, but want to take some measurements to be sure it will fit before I order a new hood.

Go with a flat hood and a demon scoop.

What's your engine set up?  How much extra room do you need to get the stock hood to fit?

It's a 340 and I have an rpm air gap with a 1inch spacer on it, I took the spacer out due to clearance but then my butterfly's on the carb hit the intake. So I bought a drop base air cleaner hoping that'll fit. But still won't happen. I haven't measured exactly yet, but from eye balling across my fender, it looks like the top of the air cleaner is 1 inch or maybe a bit more above the fender.

What carb are you using?  My secondaries hit the intake as well.  It turned out to be bad core shift in the intake.  Edelbrock sent me a new one.  I'd see about having a machine shop clearance the intake so you don't have to run the spacer.

It's a quick fuel 650 mech sec. But when I took my spacer off before the hood still pinched down on my cleaner lid.
