71 cuda door panel wood inserts?
« on: March 31, 2014 - 04:02:30 PM »
A question:

I have seen a few here and there of 70 and 71 cuda's with black interior door panels with a what looks to be wood grain insert in "swoop" on door panel.

did white panels ever have this?
my interior will be white and I would like to add this wood insert, is it available?
are they build in panel or could be added to any? I have never seen anywhere.

I really like the look and it ties everything together nicely.

please let me know if you have pics, or if this part could be located or done in some way?

thanks all

Yes it was available in white, NO they are not available anywhere. Even finding decent originals is extremely hard :2cents:

They're difficult to transfer onto another panel that doesn't have the provision holes.

It bends easily and then gets wavy as you try to massage it into the holes on the panel.
The other issue is the tabs that bend over are very thin. They break off very easily.

The holes must be exact from the original if you're transferring to the new panel.
It can be done but you must be careful to avoid it loosing it's trueness.

In your Cuda that is NOT a Grand Coupe, you would have had to have leather seats in order to get the woodgrain in the door panels. Also included in that package would be the "felt" headliner and overhead consolette :2cents:

Kind of a rare option on a Cuda , exspecially in white

I think the panels that had factory wood grain were smooth in the area behind the wood grain.  Then the holes for the clips.  I don't think you can simply add wood grain to any panel by drilling the holes.

The Gran Coupe panels were no different than others except the hole provisions for the trim.
The holes were actually slots.

My parts and car are in storage.  Can someone post a picture of an original insert panel with the insert removed?
