how much oil ? 383
« on: April 29, 2014 - 07:21:04 PM »
I have a 383 with a 402 oil pan. It takes 6 qt with filter to fill it. A friend thinks I have the wrong dipstick and it should only hold 5qt.

What should it be ?

put in 6, then check level with dip stick.
regardless what it says on stick, you will know
thats the full amount indicated on stick.

But you want to check oil level with engine warmed up I think.

Also, I run a quart low to help make more power. I have a 7 quart pan.
Lower oil level means less windage horsepower losses from crank (oil collecting
on and splashing on crank at high rpm).
