74 Steering Column
« on: April 20, 2014 - 06:48:11 PM »
The upper bearing in my 74 Challenger steering column sounds like its grinding. Im guessing it's the upper bearing, I think there is only one in there. Does anyone have a break down or some pics of their 74 columns?? It is a floor shift auto.
Not sure if I have to pull it to change the bearing, hope not...

Thanks.  :wavingflag:

It is relatively easy to get to , pull the wheel & crush can , remove the turn signal arm & lift the switch out of the way , undo the 4 screws & pry the upper housing off of the shaft & the brg is right there

I just did this over the weekend. Very easy if you have the column pulled and took apart.

I have a great PDF document that shows how to disassemble and reassemble the steering column.

A member here put it together a number of years ago.  It is very detailed.

I can send it to you if you would like.  Just PM me your email address.

And I thank Mike for that same info.
I just rebuilt my steering column per Mike's PDF and painted it last night. Awesome instructions!!!  :2thumbs:

Thank you Mike!!!  :worshippy
