Modified AAR Hood
« on: May 07, 2014 - 01:24:49 PM »
i've found a AAR Hood close by that the scoop has been raised by 2". the fiberglass job looks messy, but the YO hood is priced to move at $150. the guy raised the scoop to fit a highrise manifold. He said the cut was neat so he doesn't think it will be too much trouble to remove the extra glass. what do you think? i have a good body guy who could fix it. is it worth buying this one? or, just save $ and buy a new one
from YO? i've attached the add link below:

If it's an original, I'd offer him a hundred.
If it's a reinforced repro in the springs area, it might be worth the 150.

A higher aar hood looks decent.  Not that one though.

it's a year one repop. it's the reneforced version. for a pro body guy, how much labor would it take to redo to almost normal height? 4-5 hours?

looks like the front part of the Original shape is gone. if that is the case, I don`t think he will get it done in that time frame. Not sure how much a new one is, but if you have to pay the bodyman in full ,I am not sure if it`s worth it. I would scoop it up though... but that`s me.
heat in the drying proces is also  thing to consider. He really needs to know his stuff with glass or it will warp.

Mine is raised 1.5 inches.  If done right it looks good IMO.

Even if you did buy that monstrosity, it would take HOURS of further work until you could prime, or even think about painting it.  Plus, whats the quality of the work to begin with     MHO = PASS

I'm going to go look at it, but I'm guessing that it won't be worth fixing.

I built one for my race Cuda , raised about 5" looked wicked done ,
for $150 it may be a good starting point , fiberglass in not difficult to work with overall , you can grind it quick & lay on more resin if needed .

So, if they raised the scoop 2", will the aar base plate still seal to the underside of the scoop? What are the advantages of the hood? Weight, cool air induction and heat reduction out of the back vents?
