vacuum diaphram on intake

Hello All,

I have an Edelbrock intake that has a diaphram directly under the throttle linkage attached to the intake. . It is attached to a thick plate with 2 bolts. Is this something I need? or can I block it off. I think its the manifold vacuum, butI have an electronic ignition. Do I need a different intake?

EGR maybe
 usually no diaphragm there though , do you have a picture

Probably an EGR off a later 360 assuming this a small block

You are correct. Here is a pic of one just like it. Yes! I have a 360. Do I need it? Do they make block off plates? Or would it be better to get a different intake?

Yes that is an EGR valve. If you're not using any of the emission components anyway then there is no need for the egr either.
A block off plate should be readily available. I think Mr. Gasket carries them.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Those things are hard to find. I see them in about the same shape, but they are for Chevy's.

You have a couple options.  You can buy or make a block-off plate and remove the EGR valve...or you could just keep the valve attached but not hook it up.  Either way, I'd run an intake gasket that doesn't have the exhaust crossover holes punched.  With todays gas, you don't want that heat in the intake.  If this is a daily driver and you plan on driving it in the winter, then the crossover would be a good idea.  For a weekend cruiser, used only in good weather, I'd block off the crossover.  I'm sure someone has the gasket part# that you need to use.

Thanks for all your help. I ended up taking the diaphram off the housing and using high heat jb weld to plug up the holes in the housing and using the same gasket.
