    5-4 memorial day

    today is memorial day in the Netherlands.  Many foreign soldiers lost their lives in WWII overhere while fighting for our freedom. Several  bombers were gunned down in my neighbourhood 70 years ago this year. Today there was a memorial service for the crews of 3 RAF Lancasters that crashed 10 miles from my home and the only flying Lancaster existing today came over from the UK for a triple fly-by over the war cemetary where the crews are buried.
    Loads of people paying their respect and it was one of the most intens experiences I ever had. I can`t remember having goose bumps from head to toe like this before.  Never forget...........  :worshippy

    Yes...The one posted above and the one stationed in Hamilton Ontario are the only two flying examples in the world.
    I just saw the Canadian one the other week. Plans are in works to fly it to the UK in 2015 to reunit with the other Lancaster... :2thumbs:

    that would be cool.
    local paper spoke of 1 left able to fly. 2 is better.  They are magnificant machines.  Over 3000 went down in the war...
    The sound of the 4 V12`s truly is bone chilling. Imagine 20 or 30 flying over your home at night not knowing where the bombs will go. My town had a bunch of top notch metal processing factories. The allied forces wanted to make sure the Germans wouldn`t be able to use them so they bombed the plants, but the next morning half the towns buildings were gone. Lack of accuracy made them scary too...
