vaccuum advance on a ford 390.
« on: May 12, 2014 - 10:18:44 PM »
 >:( :wavingflag:  let me set the story , my fish 340 is fresh , with 4v alum intake . the rest is stock  1970 spec.   now to the 390,1960 tbird  the cam is 256/256 .spec per shop
the modern vacuum cans sold everywhere don't work well , Smooth driving. so I chucked it for the nos 12370 factory piece.  I Add a few washers to increase
the spring tension ,  total vac is controlled by a tube in center of spring to limit travel.   At 650 rpm 390 has ZERO pull on vacuum can. at 675  it has 1/2 of a
Degree pull,. and is linear al the way to 1200 rpm. AND Steady.   carb it the autolite 4100.  and does well . ign is Jacobs and hidden.
Now how come I can't repeat this on my 340 Plymouth it has carter afb . stock manafolds   with direct connection ignition conversion.
With The vacuum can hooked up it pops and cracks at all speeds?   I dis connect and its two barrel smooth. Does Ford  (in 1960 Know ) something
that Chrysler didn't???  Should I get the 50's vac piece?   Okay , I give , who is really smart, OR are they still alive??
any input i'd like to hear.    ayrwoof@aol.com
