Factory 71 440-6 Auto Challenger RT Driver/Project
« on: May 08, 2014 - 12:02:56 AM »
I have a 71 Challenger RT that is a factory, numbers matching 440-6 automatic car.
The car is a decent driver that can be enjoyed as is or provide a great base for a high end restoration if that is your game. If you can do some of the work you can get into a pretty serious Mopar for a little more than the cost of a 340 or 383 car.

This car comes from western Canada and as such, was not exposed to the tons of salt an Ontario car would have been exposed to. This car was owned by the original owner until 2009. He ordered the car and I have the original Bill of Sale that includes a notation that he wanted a white side stripe. The car is a B5 blue body and roof with a white bucket seat interior. In addition to the engine and transmission the Challenger was ordered with a console, power steering, power disc brakes, block heater, 3.23 sure grip, dual mirrors, undercoating and AM radio(missing). The Challenger was equipped with 14" steel wheels and dog dish caps. There are two original wheels with the car along with the correct jack. No space saver with this car. The car when it arrived in May of 1971 had a black stripe that the original owner never liked.

The car was a daily driver for a few years and then bcame a fair weather car. When the owner moved to Ontario in the early 2000s he brought the Challenger with him and a number of parts he had purchased to 'restore' the car. Unfortunately the car had suffered some lower quarter  and front inner fender rust over the years. The sadder story is the owner took the car to a local body shop to have the work completed and as we all know you get what you pay for. The body wotk and paint simply do not do the car justice. In addition they missed some pinholes in the driver's floor pan that should have been attended to.

When the car was painted the owner decided not to put a black stripe on the car and also did not have the side scoops installed although he did keep them for the car.

The car shows 116,000 original miles. The original engine has been gone though at some point and the original transmission has been rebuilt. The factory fender tag is in place but there is no broadcast sheet. The frame rails and floors are solid with the exception of the pin holes in the driver's floor in the foot well. The paint is thick and not quite the right shade. The seat covers are intact but eventually should be replaced along with the door panels.

I am asking $55,000 for this Challenger but am open to serious offers.  I might consider trades up or down but an outright sale is preferred.
