A833 manual transmission question
« on: May 09, 2014 - 10:23:13 PM »
I picked up this 70 cuda 1.5 months ago and don't have a maint manual yet. What type of transmission oil does it use. And assume it would be up to level mark with side plug? It is about 4" low if this is the case.
Thanks

If you do a search thru here or google, you will find various inputs.
I went with gear oil 80-90w.
But others will chime in on their choice.

80-90 GL4  up to the side plug , usually 1 gallon from empty
GL5 is too slippery for the syncros to work properly

This is interesting. There is automatic transmission fluid in it now. I put a post up about a noise when going very slow ahead or reverse after I drove car first time approx 8 miles and happened after drivetrain was warmed up. I pulled driveshaft to check ujoints. Everything new and no issues. Complete drivetrain is new. I will C/O oil and put in gear oil 80/90. I think I'm in the right direction thanks

I forgot to mention I have the passon overdrive with the A833 transmission. And the oil in it is what passon supplies. I.m low and do not have anylikey none in Alberta. I read some posts on here and I think it would be easier to get the Redline MTL 70/80W. This sounds like the right oil? I appreciate your comments as I'm just learning about this car.
Thanks

I plan to use Redline MTL which is dang expensive but it's what my tranny guy said would work great.
