Question on Plug Wires and Headers
« on: May 12, 2014 - 11:04:07 AM »
Here is the test stand that I whipped up last week to break in my 340. Don't laugh; I know it looks unfinished but it will only be used once. My question is this; look at the rear two plug wires; they are hitting the header. What should I do about that? thanks.

I made custom lengh wires, that come in from the bottom, to
avoid resting against the header pipe.  You can also use 90 degree
plugs that direct the wires away from headers.
Lastly, I put some aluminum tubing on some of the straight boots.

Cool stand! Chain it down, so it does not take off down the street!

these attach to valve cover bolts.  There's more expensive styles out
there too:

Poor header design !!
All of the cheap header run that tube right over the spark plug ends , , sometimes a 90* wire end under that tube gives more clearance

Hey! I'm building a engine test run stand as well. I'm almost done. I'll post a picture later when I get home.

I also custom cut my wire and make use of wire looms. On those headers, I use a cloth like sleeve to protect them from heat. I do not like those headers at all. I use Hooker Super Comp headers. ( My build suites the headers) Or use the TTI's.

90* wire end under that tube gives more clearance.

:iagree: 90 Degree angled plug wire ends will sort out those two plugs from hitting the pipes. :2thumbs:

:iagree:  I have to have friends handy to lift my front end if I use a trailer because they catch on it when I'm backing off the trailer

there are 3 header designs that stay above the steering link , TTi , Dougs & Hooker 5115 , everything else goes under the steering link & will be smashed closed in a few miles on speed bumps , potholes etc

Crap; I know nothing about headers as you can see.  I will have to run these as long as they last; and try to avoid bumps.

Could always raise front end by adjusting torsion bars, or buy bigger tires/wheels.

I do have bigger torsion bars and I have cranked them up so it does sit higher than stock.
