I just finished an ax-15 rebuild out of a 93 jeep wrangler 4.0 I did in my garage. They're not bad 5 speeds and they shift like butter compared to what I'm used too. I had 140k on mine and had to replace synchros and second gear.
I don't know personally if any of the above would mate to a 318, but hey the 318 is a truck motor.
Not to get off topic, but I've driven the nv4500 plenty of times in a cummins. Not a car tranny at all but it would handle that 318 no problem... If the 5th gear nut would hold!! You wouldn't be able to speed shift it. I like the new venture synchromesh transmissions a lot but they shift like clunky old dogs. Maybe my nv5600 just gives me that idea as that's what I've gotten used to. I've had 9k+ pounds behind my truck and I can't even tell it's there.
What about an old getrag?? Anyone hooked one of those up? LOL
