Pushrod lenth and PWR rockers
« on: May 25, 2014 - 07:28:41 PM »
Well I goofed and orderd too short of pushrod, never noticed the shortblock was supplied with #1piston at TDC but on the exhaust stroke, causing the lifter to not be on the flat spot of the lobes. :banghead:
So before I manage to do it again I took some photo's. I believe it has been said to have a couple of rows of threads showing on the adjuster but I also thought that it is on the bottom that the threads must be showing? I have been playing around with a spare rocker arm and found the threads must be sticking out of the top for oil to get thru. (I have pluged one end and the oil hole on the top and moved the adujseter up and down while blowing air into it and listning to the air coming thru the adjuster and out.) Does this sound or look correct?

Are you using pushrod oiling? Factory is oiled  through the rocker shaft, that's why there is a groove machined into
the bronze bushing. The threads should be showing below the rocker about two threads. Sounds like you would do well to read up
on Andy Finkbeiners how to build a muscle motor. Lots of great info in there for every phase of an engine build.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

Back the adjuster all the way to the top , thread down approx. 2 turns so you have some wiggle room , you picture looks correct

Yes I have the book and have read it, although he does mention the adjuster has to be in the right postiotion he's was talikng about Comp Cams rockers and everything I've heard is to leave a couple of threads showing out the bottom, but on my Pwr rockers that seems wrong as I can only hear the oil passage line up if I have the threads showing out of the top. Since I dont have a set of Comps  stainless rockers to compare I didnt want to assume the were indentical is all. I aggree its a great book full of lots of good info.

Yes they are properly seated on the stands and oriented correctly with the oil holes facing down and towards the outside.
