A833 leak from tail shaft...
« on: May 28, 2014 - 09:41:52 PM »
Found out I have a leak on my A833 tranny.
I was told the tranny was rebuilt, which I believe. The outer seal looks good and it seems the driveshaft slides in and has a seal.
My leak seems to be with inside the yoke that slides into the tranny. Not on the outer part.
I see oil seeping out the inside of the yoke out by the u-joint.
I'm using 80-90 gear oil.
Where or what should I be focusing my problem on?
I'm not seeing a flow but dripping and a puddle on the ground.

Thank you,
Tom

It is very possible that the slip yoke is leaking. There is only a steel plug right there between the yoke ears as a plug to the splines, I have seen them leak before. Surest way to stop a leak there is to replace the yoke. I you get it really clean you can try some RTV sealant around the edge of the plug, key is it need to be very clean.

What?  :22yikes: A plug inside the yoke? No plug is there.  :pullinghair: Didn't even know there was supposed to be one.  :banghead:
Edit: Now I remember back in my younger days that they did have plugs. I just totally forgot. :bricks1:
